Fully open source 3D Printer






RepRap takes the form of a free desktop 3D printer capable of printing plastic objects. Since many parts of RepRap are made from plastic and RepRap prints those parts, RepRap self-replicates by making a kit of itself - a kit that anyone can assemble given time and materials. It also means that - if you’ve got a RepRap - you can print lots of useful stuff, and you can print another RepRap for a friend.




Proton will be released in 2017. We will not only provide the print code, but also release all of the original 3D models in Onshape (full-cloud CAD) as well as the firmware. Onshape is a full-cloud 3D CAD system that everyone can use on a web browser to build a 3D model, no matter if you are a PC or Mac user. We will be open-minded so that every user can produce their own 3D printer based on Proton and Neutron. We are interested in what Proton and Neutron can become with the help of the community.

While the RepRap project produced some functional printers, it was clear that nobody had intended to produce something for the desktop of the discerning designer. That’s where Layer One’s Proton and Neutron come in. If you're an open-source advocate, a tinkerer, and a designer with an eye for aesthetics, you’ll want one of these on your desk.
